National Book Store invites authors, writers, and other bookworms at the Philippine Readers and Writers Festival. It will take place at Raffles Makati from August 10, 11, and 12, 2018.

“We’re excited to hold this year’s festival, with a diverse lineup of authors, artists, and publishing professionals. And for the fifth consecutive year, we’re happy to be partnering with Raffles Makati,” says Xandra Ramos – Padilla, National Book Store’s managing director.

Admission is free, and this three day event is filled with book signings, discussions, and panels about books, literature, and culture. Top billing this year are Adi Alsaid, Erin Entrada Kelly, and Nancy Silberkleit.

Alsaid is a young adult author, born to Israeli parents and raised in Mexico City. His most recent book, ‘North of Happy’, follows Carlos Portillo, a teenager who began hearing his dead brother’s voice in his head and decided to run away to the US. There, he must decide what’s most important to him and where his true path really lies. Alsaid’s other works include ‘Let’s Get Lost’ and ‘Never Always Sometimes’.

Kelly is an award-winning Filipino-American children’s book author. Her works include ‘Blackbird Fly’, ‘The Land of Forgotten Girls’, ‘Hello, Universe’, and ‘You Go First’. ‘Hello, Universe’ won her the 2018 Newbery Medal for outstanding children’s book.

Finally, Silberkleit is the co-CEO of Archie Comics Publications. She sees the comic book as a valuable tool for developing literacy among first-time readers and instilling a love of reading for everyone. Her personal motto is that “Children + Comic Books = Reading, Knowledge, and Confidence.”

Apart from them, a multitude of local authors and artists will also be joining the festival. These include VJ Campilan, Butch Dalisay, Lourd De Veyra, RV Manabat, Rod Marmol, Jomike Tejido, Abbey Sy, and many more

This event is made possible in partnership with ABS-CBN Publishing, Adarna House, Anvil Publishing, Ateneo De Manila University Press, CNN Life, Scholastic, Summit Books, Tahanan Books, University of the Philippines Press, University of Santo Tomas Publishing House, Visprint, Young Blood, and Young STAR.
