The German Film Week will enter its next round this 2018. The Goethe-Institut Philippinen and its partners, SM Cinemas, the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP), St. Louis University, University of San Carlos and Liceo de Cagayan University, present the third edition of the German Film Week in the Philippines.
This year’s program features 10 new movies of contemporary German cinema that reach from classic themes of love, friendship and family, to contemporary themes in Europe, such as the refugee crisis.
According to Dr. Ulrich Nowak, Director of the Goethe-Institut Philippinen, “the movie selection this year offers movies for young and old, for romantics and action fans, and for dreamers and realists. It combines easy-to-watch movies with movies that will make you think – giving the audience an insight into German art and culture. ”
The festival opens this year with the film Only God Can Judge Me (“Nur Gott kann mich richten”, 2017), which is a drama from director Özgür Yildirim and which stars German actor Moritz Bleibtreu. Only God Can Judge Me shows that German cinema can keep up with mainstream action movies made in Hollywood.
The German Film Week opening night takes place at SM Aura Cinema 2 on Nov 6. The succeeding film screenings will run from November 7 to November 11 at SM Aura and SM North EDSA for Metro Manila. Subsequent screenings will take place in Baguio, Cebu and Cagayan de Oro in November.
Tickets to the 2018 GERMAN FILM WEEK are priced at 100 Php for all films. The opening screening on November 6 is free and open to all on a first-come-first-served basis while tickets for the rest of the Manila screenings may be purchased at the cinema counters of participating SM malls, via smcinema.com or the SM Cinema App.
