The Cultural Center of the Philippines, with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), announced the 4th Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival Manila 2019, which will be held on July 18-21.
The competition is open to choirs which will qualify in any of the following three (3) categories: Folk Song, Equal Voices and Mixed Choir.
The festival is named after the founder of the world renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers, the late National Artist for Music Andrea O. Veneracion, an esteemed choirmaster and choral clinician who was instrumental in the development of choral music all over the country. First organized in 2013, the festival takes place every two years.
A jury composed of five (5) internationally renowned adjudicators – one (1) from Europe, one (1) from North America, one (1) from South America, one (1) from Africa/Australia, and one (1) from the Philippines will evaluate the competition.
Awards are the following:
- Mixed Choir Category: US$5,000 (1st Prize), US$3,500 (2nd Prize), US$2,500 (3rd Prize);
- Equal Voices Category: US$4,000 (1st Prize), US$2,500 (2nd Prize), US$1,500 (3rd Prize);
- Folk Song Category: US$3,000 (1st Prize), US$2,000(2nd Prize), US$1,000 (3rd Prize).
The festival will coincide with the 1st Asia Choral Grand Prix, which will be held on the Festival’s last day, July 21. The Asia Choral Grand Prix is a competition of the top two winners of the 2017 and 2018 competitions of the following international choir festivals: the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival (Philippines), the Bali International Choir Festival (Indonesia), and the Singapore International Choral Festival (Singapore).
