To further its initiatives of promoting regional arts and culture, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Cultural Exchange Department (CED) brings on outreach tour a collaborative production featuring some of the country’s most prominent regional performing groups under its UGNAYAN SA SINING program – community performances and exchange tours.

From September 19 to October 4, the students, teachers, local artists and community audiences in San Francisco-Agusan del Sur, Iligan City, Bacolod City, Angeles City and Marikina City will experience the Philippine story in music, dance and images in the collaborative production entitled “Gintong Alab sa Silangan” (Pearl of the Orient). With concept, music and direction by Dr. Steven Patrick C. Fernandez, this performance captures the centuries of history of the Filipino people encapsulating the spirits of the significant eras that shaped the Filipino and his nation. The production images the glitter of a storied history of the “Pearl of the Orient.” The pearl — revered and desired, and through time aged in an oyster’s shell — glows in iridescent splendor when struck by the sun.

Gintong Alab features the Integrated Performing Arts Guild (IPAG) of MSU-IIT Iligan City; Sinukwan Kapampangan Performing Arts and the Holy Angel University Dance Theater from Angeles-Pampanga; Maskara Theater Ensemble of the University of St. La Salle Bacolod; and the Philippine Barangay Folk Dance Troupe Rondalla from Manila. The creative team is composed of music conductors Ernesto Zaldua Jr. and Malvin Macasaet, choreographers Melvin Pascubillo and Leilani Fernandez, set designer Hernenigildo Dico, animator Meshaq Dangel, stage manager Lilibeth Maraon and production manager Arlem Abanes.

The outreach tours are made possible thru the partnership and support of the St. Francis Xavier College in San Francisco-Agusan del Sur; Provincial Govt. of Agusan del Sur; the Municipality of San Francisco; MSU Iligan Institute of Technology Cultural Development Office; Negros Cultural Foundation; Holy Angel University; City Govt. of Marikina; Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Marikina; Marikina Culture and Arts Council; and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

Catch any of the outreach performances on Sept. 22 – 3:00pm and 6:00pm at the San Francisco Gymnasium-Agusan del Sur; Sept. 25 – 3:00pm and 6:00pm at the MSU-IIT Gym Iligan City; Sept. 27 – 10:30am and 4:00pm at the SMX Bacolod City; Sept. 29 – 3:00pm and 6:00pm at the Holy Angel University Theater, Angeles City; and October 3 – 3:00pm and 6:00pm at the Teatro Marikina.
