Global Water Dances 2019 is a series of performances that will take place in different countries where dancing is used as a step towards strengthening the awareness campaign on the current condition of our waters.
Global Water Dances is housed at the Laban/Bartenieff Institute of Movement Studies (LIMS) in New York City. LIMS’ international network of dancers and choreographers is aspiring to cultivate a new generation of socially aware artists, who use dance to actively care for our planet and people.
Dance is a powerful channel that connects human beings and makes visible what is invisible. Participating in a Global Water Dances event contributes to building communities of movement enthusiasts and water advocates around the world.
This year, in one day, more than 170 countries participated in the event and one of it is our country, Philippines. For the fourth time, it was held in Marikina City. It took place last Saturday, 22 June 2019 at Marikina Riverbanks Amphitheater from 05:00PM to 06:00PM. The said event were participated by the members of Waterbenders, a water patrol unit built by Greenpeace Philippines Water Patrol together with the members of Teatro Marikeño Inc. Community Theater and Dance Company.
Waterbenders was supported by: Marikina City Government, Riverbanks Center, Office of Public Safety and Security (OPSS), Astig.PH, Kuya So, Tech Kuya, Fringe Magazine and Rizal Weekly Post.
