The Cultural Center of the Philippines – with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts – presents the 4th Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival on July 18-21.
The Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, which was first organized in August 2013, takes place every two years. The festival is open to choirs who wish to compete in one, two or three of the following competition categories: Folk Song, Equal Voices Mixed Choir.
This year’s Festival will showcase the talents of twelve choirs which went through rigorous screening by the Artistic Committee: Don Bosco Makati – Boscorale, Chór Pueri et Puellae Cantores Plocenses (Poland), Chorus Vocales Philippines, Far Eastern University Chorale, Gloria Patri Singers, Miriam College High School Glee Club, Philippine Normal University (PNU) Kalibnusan Chorale, Philippine Vocal Ensemble, St. Paul Pasig High School Chorale, Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) Choral Society, University of Baguio (UB) Voices Chorale and the Voice of Satya Wacana Christian University (Indonesia).
The Folk Song Category competition will showcase the performances of Filipino choirs singing folk songs from the Philippines, the Asian region, and from outside of the Asian region; and foreign choirs singing folk songs from their home country, from another country in their region and from the Philippines. The Equal Voices Category competition is open to female voices (sopranos and/or altos) and male voices (tenors and/or basses), will present choirs each performing a program consisting of one (1) Renaissance/early Baroque choral work, one (1) Romantic choral work, one (1) choral work from the 20th-21st century, and one (1) freely chosen choral work. The Mixed Choir Category competition will present choirs each singing the following period pieces: one (1) Renaissance/Early Baroque choral work, one (1) Romantic choral work, one (1) 20th or 21st century choral work; and the obligatory piece, a newly commissioned work composed by Eudenice Palaruan, entitled “Tempus” whose text is taken from Proverbs of Rabindranath Tagore and the Biblia Sacra Vulgata.
A jury of five internationally renowned adjudicators – one from North America, one from Europe, one from South America, one from Africa/Australia and one from the Philippines will evaluate the competitors. These are Dr. Jason Max Ferdinand (USA), Werner Pfaff (Germany), Digna Guerra (Cuba), David Squire (New Zealand), and Mark Anthony Carpio (Philippines).

All events will be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo.
