Cosey Mueller releases dark hypnotic minimal synthpunk from Berlin

The album explores various mental and emotional states, as well as the moment of realizing a strange distinction between the inside and the outside (both physically and philosophically) within the stillness of the time it was conceived.

Cosey Mueller’s “Interior Escapes” has been released via Spared Flesh Records. The US release will be limited to 50 black cassettes and the German release will be limited to 50 pink cassettes.

Mueller is an artist and musician currently working and living in Berlin, Germany. She is previously known for her work as one-half of the synthpunk duo DAS DAS.

“Interior Escapes” is her solo debut, a project which evolved during the time of the pandemic 2020/2021. It is a collection of home recordings on a tape four-track, a medium crucial to the character of the sound, giving it an analog roughness. The record is a playful experimentation with simple synth melodies, repetitive beats, and mostly spontaneously written lyrics.

Thematically, it explores various mental and emotional states, as well as the moment of realizing a strange distinction between the inside and the outside (both physically and philosophically) within the stillness of the time it was conceived. Stylistically it is inspired by early underground electronic NDW music and mirrors Cosey’s own inner universe and taste in music.

All songs were written, performed, recorded, mixed, and mastered by Mueller.
