Kurit-Lagting, a collective artistic collaboration of Bicolano artists from Sorsogon, Albay, Masbate and Camarines provinces will be launching on December 14, the KURIT Artist’s Talk and Workshop as part of their advocacy in educating and engaging the community in the field of the arts. The event also aims to make Sorsogon, a possible art hub for young artists and enthusiasts to flock to.
In partnership with Guhit Pinas- Sorsogon, a guild of Filipino visual artists and art enthusiasts; Good Neighbors International Philippines (Prieto Diaz CDP), an international, nonprofit humanitarian organization; and the United Architects of the Philippines Sorsogon Kasanggayahan Chapter together with UAPGA Sorkas Chapter and UAPSA-SSC Chapter, all known for its volunteer works in addressing housing problems, urban degradation, environmental conservation and advocacy for sustainable design and practices; the said event will be held from 7:30am to 5:00pm at the Sorsogon State College in Sorsogon City.
Composed of volunteers, artists and cultural workers, the morning session will feature Bicolano artists who will talk about their creative practices in image-making, architecture, writing, storytelling, music and performance by developing visual concepts and ideas that go beyond traditionally defined art and design disciplines and how they situate themselves in their roles as artists and cultural workers in their local communities.
Participants will also select a workshop of their choice in the afternoon to help them explore the role and function of language and imagery in their creative practices by employing a range of digital and traditional image-making processes used in photography, printmaking, architecture, poetry, painting and design for the purpose of addressing and visualizing specific experiences, social concerns and phenomena.
The event is sponsored by Axa Philippines, CDO Foodsphere Inc., Ciccada, Correa Optical, Fab Caffe Sorsogon and 1st Colonial Grill.
