Announcing this year’s call for nominations for the Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art. Work that has been exhibited between May 2, 2015 and May 1, 2016 can now be nominated for the 13th edition of this prize to be given at the 2016 Ateneo Art Awards. Nomination forms have begun circulation among art spaces and cultural institutions all over the Philippines, and are also available at the Ateneo Art Gallery.
The forms may also be downloaded from http://www.ateneoartgallery.
Since 2004, the Ateneo Art Gallery and its partners have granted awards and opportunities to Filipino visual artists below the age of 36 so that they may further their practice and enrich the Philippine cultural landscape. Outstanding exhibited works are duly recognized through this prize that honors and commemorates Fernando Zóbel de Ayala (1924 – 1984), the founding benefactor of the Ateneo Art Gallery. In 2014, the Ateneo Art Awards began including a second category: The Purita Kalaw-Ledesma Prize for Art Criticism, thus honoring two pioneers who made their respective marks in Philippine art history.
For the Fernando Zóbel Prizes for Visual Art, three winners will be selected from a shortlist of 12 exhibitions/artworks. The winners are then invited to apply for international residency grants funded by the Ateneo Art Gallery and its partner institutions: La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre in Bendigo, Australia, Artesan Gallery in Singapore and Liverpool Hope University in Liverpool, United Kingdom.
The Ateneo Art Awards is presented by the Ateneo Art Gallery, Shangri-la Plaza, Kalaw-Ledesma Foundation, Inc. Metro Society, The Philippine Star and Y-Style.
