Tanghalang Pilipino and Ballet Philippines, both resident companies of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, garnered awards given by the Philippine Legitimate Stage Artists Group, Inc. (Philstage) held recently at the Star Theater in CCP Complex, Pasay City.
The Gawad Buhay! awards were received by Tanghalang Pilipino for the following categories, among them, Outstanding Play (“Doc Resureccion, Gagamutin ang Bayan”), Outstanding Musical Production (“Stageshow”), Outstanding Stage Direction (Chris Millado, “Stageshow”), Outstanding Ensemble Performance for a Play (The Cast of “Walang Kukurap”), Outstanding Ensemble Performance for a Musical (the cast of “Stageshow”), Outstanding Original Script (Layeta Bucoy, “Doc Resureccion, Gagamutin ang Bayan”), Outstanding Book or Original Libretto (Mario O’ Hara, “Stageshow”), Outstanding Choreography for a Play or Musical (Denisa Reyes, “Stageshow”), Outstanding Sound Design (TJ Ramos, “Stageshow”), Female Lead Performance in a Musical (Shamaine Centenera-Buencamino, “Stageshow”), Female Featured Performance in a Musical (Angelina Kanapi, “Stageshow”), and Male Featured Performance in a Musical (Rody Vera, “Stageshow”).
Ballet Philippines earned the said award for the production “Rama, Hari” in the following categories such as Outstanding Modern Dance Production, Outstanding Ensemble Performance for Dance (the cast of “Rama, Hari”), Outstanding Adaptation or Translation (Bienvenido Lumbera), Outstanding Musical Direction (Ryan Cayabyab and Jed Balsamo), Outstanding Musical Composition (Ryan Cayabyab), Outstanding Choreography for a Dance Production (Alice Reyes), Outstanding Costume Design (Salvador Bernal), Outstanding Set Design (Salvador Bernal), Male Lead Performance in a Musical (OJ Mariano), Male Featured Performance in a Musical (Noel Rayos), Female Lead Performance in a Modern Dance Production (Carissa Adea), Male Lead Performance in a Modern Dance Production (Richardson Yadao), Female Featured Performance in a Modern Dance Production (Rita Winder), and Male Featured Performance in a Modern Dance Production (Earl John Arisola).
The Natatanging Gawad Buhay! (Lifetime Achievement Award) was given to Tanghalang Pilipino founder Nonon Padilla and former Ballet Philippines artistic director and choreographer Denisa Reyes.
