Cine Europa 2018 presents 100 Years of PH Cinema

In its 21st year, Cine Europa will be held in Manila from December 6-16. Films and documentaries from the Philippines that have European connections or content complement the screenings with educational forums and lectures.

Every year, the European Delegation to the Philippines presents Cine Europa, which is considered as the country’s foremost festival exclusively devoted to showcasing the best motion pictures from the European continent. Now, on its 21st year, Cine Europa will be held in Manila from December 6-16.  Films and documentaries from the Philippines that have European connections or content complement the screenings with educational forums and lectures.

For Cine Europa 2018, eminent film historian and award-winning filmmaker Nick Deocampo will share his research and documentary on the 100 Years of Philippine Cinema.

Another award winning -film maker, regional cinema advocate Elvert Bañares, will share his study on the use of film in understanding different cultures. The Cine Europa 2018 lecture series and workshop will be held on December 12, 13, and 14, at 11am at the Red Carpet Cinema 1, Shangri-La Cineplex, Mandaluyong..

On December 12, Wednesday, Mr. Deocampo will talk on how European culture and trends have influenced Filipino cinema. Noted film artists from Europe and their works will be discussed.

On December 13, Thursday, the Mr. Deocampo will discuss the contribution of pioneer Filipino filmmaker Jose Nepomuceno and the birth of Philippine cinema, and the developments 100 years after Philippine cinema’s birth.

The lecture series will conclude on December 14, Friday, with Mr. Bañares’ presentation and workshop on understanding cultures through film, citing specific examples from European cinema and Filipino regional cinema.

Students, teachers, filmmakers and film aficionados are welcome to attend these events.

All the Cine Europa events will be held at the newly renovated Red Carpet Cinema of the Shangri-La Plaza Cineplex in Mandaluyong City. Admission to Cine Europa movies and talks is free; availability of seating is on a first come, first served, basis. Gates will open at 10:30am.
