Cinemalaya calls for submissions for its 2020 edition

Interested filmmakers must submit their application on or before October 26, 2018, 6pm, at the Media Arts Division of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City.

After its run last August, the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival calls for submissions to its 2020 edition. Interested filmmakers must submit their application on or before October 26, 2018, 6pm, at the Media Arts Division of the Cultural Center of the Philippines, Roxas Blvd., Pasay City.

All Filipino filmmakers are welcome to submit their entries for the Cinemalaya main full-length competition. Filipino filmmakers residing abroad may be accepted only on exceptional cases such as the submission of a superior material and if both director and producer can personally meet with the Competition Committee to discuss their material.

All entries must be submitted in a long brown envelope properly labeled with the name/s of proponent/s, title of film entry, and contact details, containing the duly accomplished 2020 Entry Form (available at www.culturalcenter.gov.ph or www.cinemalaya.org), with resume of proponent, two 2×2 recent photos of proponent, and sample of a short film directed by the proponent (between 5 to 20-minute long) in data file on DVD or USB.

The application must also include a one-page synopsis in Filipino or English (12 pts font size, not more than 300 words), a detailed sequence treatment (between 50 to 60 sequences), duplicated in six copies. The sheets containing the synopsis and detailed sequence treatment must not bear the name of the proponent. Full scripts will not be accepted.

Interested participants may submit a maximum of three entries. However, only one entry per proponent may be considered as a finalist.

All works must be strictly independent films and not produced by commercial producers to guarantee the participants’ full creative control over the film. However, a producer or line producer can only have a maximum of two films-in-competition. All works must have their premiere screening at the Cinemalaya Festival. Works already in production phase prior to August 2020 are disqualified.
