Filipino percussionist, marimbist Aimee Mina-De la Cruz to perform at CCP

Filipino percussionist and marimbist Aimee Mina-De la Cruz will perform in a special concert as part of the Special Concert Series of the Cultural Center of the Philippines on Tuesday, November 12 at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater) at 7:30 PM.

Mina-De la Cruz was a representative to the Southeast Asian Youth Orchestra and Wind Ensemble (SAYOWE) in 2004 and 2005, and one of the five Filipino delegates to the ASEAN-China Joint Cultural Performance and Symphony Orchestra for Young Musicians held in Cambodia in April 2006. She performed with the Metro Manila Community Orchestra, UP Percussion Ensemble and the UP Symphonic Band. She was featured soloist at the Bel Air Village Park, Makati City in February 2009 as part of the village’s activities for National Arts Month. As a member of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, Aimee’s outstanding performance of Ravel’s Tziganne for Marimba and Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Oscar C. Yatco, PPO conductor laureate drew raves.

An active member of the newly-formed group, the Philippine Band Association (PhilBanda, Inc), she performed Saint-Saens’ Introduction and Rondo Capriccioso for Marimba accompanied by the PhilBanda Wind Orchestra at the Singapore International Band Festival in July 2012.

Aimee’s program is as follows: Sarasate’s Carmen, Bach’s Concerto in D minor for Two violins BWV1043 (Vivace), Milhaud’s Concerto for Percussion, Zivkovic’s Trio per Uno (Meccanico), Levitas’ Concerto for Percussion, Cruz’ Sana’y Maghintay ang Walang Hanggan, and Ewazen’s Concerto for Marimba.

Aimee performs with pianist Fe Marsha V. Nicolas. Guest artists are young marimbist Mikaela Natasha Janelle Ley, percussionists Leodivino Roque and Gomer Giron and violist Joy Allan De la Cruz.

She will give a percussion workshop for symphonic band and orchestra percussionists on Friday, November 15, 2012 from 9:00 AM to 12 noon and from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM at the CCP Main Theater Lobby.

The concert of award-winning trumpeter Raymond De Leon for the Special Concert Series has been moved to January 29, 2014 at the CCP Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino at 7:30 PM. The trumpet workshop and masterclass will be held on January 30 and 31, 2014 at the Silangan Hall, Cultural Center of the Philippines.
