Hong Kong’s largest ever Chinese ink painting exhibition calls for entries

Starting from 1 November, the first-ever “Ink Global” in Hong Kong calls for entries. The exhibition targets to showcase 500 inspiring ink paintings selected from all the submissions, enhancing Hong Kong’s position in the world of ink painting and promoting the city to be the “Asian hub of ink painting.”

Hong Kong’s art scene is attracting more and more international art events. The city’s largest ever international Chinese ink painting exhibition, “Ink Global”, organized by the Young Artists Development Foundation, will be held 2 – 8 August 2017. The exhibition, taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre, will be open to the public with free admission. This pioneering global art event showcasing the profoundness and excellence of ink painting will gather 500 masterpieces from elite artists worldwide.

Through the “Ink Global” Exhibition, the Young Artists Development Foundation aims to promote the development of ink painting and enhance its position in the international art circle by selecting and showcasing 500 masterpieces from elite artists around the world.

Spanning an area of 150,000 square feet, “Ink Global”, themed with contemporary ink paintings, will be the largest ever and one of the best art exhibitions in Hong Kong, mainland China and overseas.

The organizer is honored to receive the calligraphic inscription contributed by Professor Jao Tsung-I. “Ink Global” is also a platform for artists of different ages and from different countries to exchange their insights and experiences with others. While the exhibition is estimated to attract 150,000 local and overseas art lovers and visitors, It is also a community event celebrating the 20th anniversary of Hong Kong S.A.R.

With a plan to comprise the judging panel with 15 to 20 influential figures from the art circle, the panel now includes the organizing committee: Florence Hui, Under Secretary for Home Affairs; Dr Louis Ng, Deputy Director (Culture), Lecture and Cultural Services Department; Nellie Fong, Chairman of the Young Artists Development Foundation; Dr Kwok Homun, Curator of Ink Global; together with the art experts, including Dr Lesley Lau, Head of the Art Promotion Office; Kuiyi Shen, Professor of Art History and Director of Chinese Studies Program at University of California, as well as ink masters Professor Wucius Wong, He Baili, Lam Wu Fui, Wong Hau KweiShen PingHung HoiWang Qiu Tong and Chan Shingkau. The judging panel will select 400 pieces of works by online assessment.

Enrollment begins on 1 November 2016, with a submission deadline on 28 February 2017. Those who are interested can enroll and submit their painting by uploading a digital file of the painting to the online submission system. One submission is allowed per individual. All submitted paintings should be in the size of 6-foot xuan paper (96.5x178cm, with a total area around 1.5 square meters) or 8-foot xuan paper (123x249cm, with a total area around 2.5 square meters). Combinations of paintings are accepted. Enrollment details and results will be announced at www.inkglobal.org.
