Modern artists began with the assumption that color and shape formed the essential characteristics of art. Color, as perceived visually, is experiential and relies heavily on and is influenced by a specific environment.
Thus, a distinct color palette became evident from the works of the second wave of Philippine Modernists – the Philippine Art Gallery (PAG) Neo-Realists – to the early Abstractionists. Both explored the relationship between color and its viewers, the feelings it evoked, the emotions it conveyed, and the “sounds” it made.
This is what “Idiopathic Hues” wants to tackle, with an exhibit running until May 31 at the Ateneo Art Gallery Permanent Collections Area.
