Salvador Bernal

The first site for the Luzon Leg will be Lingayen, Pangasinan hosted by the Provincial Government of Pangasinan. The exhibit will be mounted at the historic Sison Auditorium located at the Provincial Capitol Complex. It opened on February 26, and will run until May 3.

The exhibit aims to introduce and explain the art of theater design through some of the most expressive and impressive works of Bernal. It brings together three of Bernal’s closest friends and collaborators namely Dr. Nicanor Tiongson and former students and mentees Gino Gonzales and Ricardo Cruz. Together, they arrived at an intimate and insightful presentation of his multi-faceted career. The exhibition will include a display of scale models, dioramas, costumes & video excerpts from actual productions. A lecture-forum by notable production and stage design experts will complement the exhibition in each site. In Lingayen, the lecture-forum will be conducted by Gino Gonzales on March 19 from 9:00AM to 12:00NN at the Sison Auditorium.

Through the exhibit tour, the CCP hopes to inspire and encourage the young generation of theater-stage artists all over the country to take on the challenges of production design and technical theater and strive to reach a high level of artistry similar to what Bernal achieved.

Supported by the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA), the exhibit tour will proceed from Lingayen to Laoag, Ilocos Norte (May 9-29), Lipa City (June 5-14) and Batangas City (June 19-July 4). The tour will continue in Visayas and Mindanao until November this year.

For more information about the tour, contact the CCP Cultural Exchange Department at tel. no. 832-1125 locals 1709-1710.
