Tenor Arthur Espiritu’s solo concert for the CCP Special Concert Series is scheduled on Wednesday, September 26, at 7:30 PM at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (CCP Little Theater).
He will sing works by Donaudy, Faure, Gounod, Schubert, Richard Strauss, Lizst, Tchaikovsky and Gerry de Leon. Collaborating pianist is Mariel Ilusorio.
Espiritu finished his studies in Music Performance with an Artist Diploma from Oberlin College Conservatory of Music under the studio of the late Vocal Pedagogy Richard Miller. He also earned his Bachelor of Arts and Master in Music Performance from the University of New Orleans under the studio of Dr. Raquel Cortina. His current teachers are Dr. Raquel Cortina in New Orleans and Dr. Robert C. White Jr. in New York.
Espiritu has portrayed many leading tenor roles in North America, Europe, and Asia. He just returned from European tour where he performed the role of Alfredo in Verdi’s “La Traviata” with Oper Klosterneuburg in Vienna over the summer then once again played the role of Cassio in Verdi’s “Otello” with Frankfurt Opera. Prior to Traviata, he debuted the role of Gualtiero in Bellini’s “Il Pirata” with Theater St. Gallen, Switzerland. Most recently Mr. Espiritu reprised the role of Rodolfo in Puccini’s “La Boheme” with Israeli Opera, Tel-Aviv, the role of Prince Ramiro in Rossini’s “La Cenerentola” with State Theater Gaertnerplatz, Munich, also a debut with Opera Australia (Sydney Opera House) as Rodolfo in Puccini’s “La Boheme” and as The Shepherd in Szymanowski’s Opera in Polish “King Roger” 2016/17, a debut with St. Margarethen Opera Summer Festival as The Duke in Verdi’s “Rigoletto”, a debut with Munich Symphony in a concert series in Munich as a Solo Artist.
Espiritu has sung in notable places and organizations such as Teatro alla Scala, Théâtre des Champs-Élysée, Sydney Opera House Opera Australia, Teatro Piccolo Milano, Oper Leipzig, Santa Fe Opera, Pittsburgh Opera, Opera Theater of St. Louis, Marlboro Music Festival, Louisiana Philharmonic, Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, The Royal Opera of Versailles, Brucknerhaus in Linz, La Verdi Symphony Orchestra in Milan, Esplanade Concert Hall in Singapore, Berlin Philharmonic Digital Concert hall, Baden-Baden Festspiele, and many more through the years since 2008 where he started his professional career.
Espiritu is a winner of the 2009 George London Award. Furthermore he won the La Scala award at the Belvedere Competition in 2007. He then won top prizes in voice competitions such as The Irene Dalis Competition Opera San Jose, California, Opera Birmingham Voice Competition, Alabama, Finalist and 2nd Prize winner of The Regional Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, Winner of numerous NATS competitions both regionals and nationals, and 2nd Prize winner of the National Opera Association Competition in New York.
Arthur will give a voice masterclass to 12 of the most advanced music students from colleges/conservatories of music on September 27-29, 2018, with a Culminating Recital on September 30 at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino.
