The best ways to back up your music files so you never lose them

Thanks to hackers and unreliable laptops, your music files may disappear in an instant. To stop that from happening, you need to be proactive and backup your files. Here are a few tips that will help.

As a music geek, the thought of losing your discography is your worst nightmare. It takes months and even years to build up a collection of music, and you don’t want to lose it ever. However, it is possible to lose all of your hard work. Thanks to hackers and unreliable laptops, your music files may disappear in an instant. To stop that from happening, you need to be proactive and backup your files.

Here are a few tips that will help.

UPLOAD TO AN EXTERNAL HARD DRIVE

The great thing about an external hard drive is that it doesn’t connect to your server. Instead, you connect it to your computer and upload all of your music on the device. Then, you unplug it and store it in a safe place. Should anything ever happen to your primary music storage, you can complete a ‘factory reset’ and go back to the start. All you have to remember is to upload your music on a regular basis. If you don’t, your external device will have gaps that you will have to fill. Also, choose one that can hold all of your files.

DUPLICATE YOUR CDs

Not all of your music has to be digital. In fact, CDs and vinyl records are becoming more popular than ever. Still, they are just as liable to damage as a file on your computer. As a result, you need to backup your hard copies. Thankfully, it is easy to do with the help of Nationwide and other firms. These companies have a duplication service that allows you to make a second copy. The key, once you have a backup, is to store it someplace safe. Should your initial copies suffer damage, you don’t want the same to happen to your duplicates. Just like an external hard drive, you need to store it off-site.

THE CLOUD

What’s so good about the cloud is that you don’t need to replicate anything if you want to keep it one-hundred percent digital. The cloud is a digital storage capacity, which means all of your files are stored in the same place. The cloud, however, doesn’t have anything to do with your current server or device. So, if there is a problem, everything will be safe in the cloud. You do have to take safety precautions because it isn’t always secure. But, a handful of safety protocols will do the job.

STREAM INSTEAD OF DOWNLOAD

You don’t have to own the music nowadays to listen to it, and that is a plus. Because the music streams through a software program, there is no need for you to backup your music. The music is always available through the program. All you have to do is search for your favorite songs and artists and listen. Sure, you do have to pay for the service, but the amount is quite insignificant. Spotify, for instance, charges $10 a month for their service.

Streaming the music is the future, and this is one of the main reasons.
