The joy of vinyl: Why it still holds an enduring appeal

Here are just a few of the main reasons that vinyl still holds an enduring appeal.

While digital music has continued to become the dominant form in the last few years, the vinyl revolution has shown no signs of slowing down. And while some people dismiss this as a fad kept going by hipsters, there are a number of reasons why this format still continues to capture the hearts, minds and ears of music-lovers up and down the country. There is no doubt that it looks good, it feels good, and, most importantly, it sounds good.

Here are just a few of the main reasons that vinyl still holds an enduring appeal.

Prized Possessions

When it comes to digital music, in a couple of clicks you can find the vast majority of songs that you are after, and before you know it, you have it on your laptop, smartphone and any other device you fancy. When it comes to vinyl, it is all about the thrill of the chase. There is extra meaning attached to an object that has taken a long time to track down and obtain. A labour of love has gone into getting the vinyl disc which cannot be achieved with your regular digital download.

Representation of Personality

A vinyl collection can represent the very best and worst of your music taste. The question: “what was the first record you owned?” is not the same as “what was the first song you downloaded?” With a vinyl collection, you can proudly display it in your house to show some unique parts of your personality, which is something you can never do with a digital music collection. You can also show off all your equipment that you use to play the vinyl, a variety of which can be found at http://www.vinylvintage.net/studio-monitors/. People love to see the effort that has gone into establishing the collection.

Social Appeal

Most fandoms have some sort of social appeal, and this is certainly the case when it comes to vinyl. You arrange the time to play a few records with friends, and can while away afternoons at your local record store. There is nothing like meeting up with like-minded people to keep your passion burning.

Visual Significance

In today’s musical world, the joy of album art has been just about lost. No longer do you anticipate what the next new release from your favorite band will have on the cover. But you can still recognize classic album sleeves which instantly conjure up images of that particular era and time of your life. Vinyl adds a visual component to music which has been largely lost today.

Physical Objects

Just as regular books are coming back against their digital counterparts, vinyl is doing well because it is something tangible that you get for your money. The concept of owning something that you can’t touch still feels strange to many of us. Again, it is much easier to attach some sort of emotional significance to a physical object than it is to something you have downloaded.
