Want to take family movie night to the next level? Why not create you own personal cinema at home? If you have a room that’s not being used to its full potential (or the space to create on within an existing room) what better way to use it. The perfect way to relax during evenings and weekends and great for when you have friends over too.
Screen
Of course, the most important thing when it comes to creating a movie room is finding the best screen possible! You can buy very large TVs these days, while they’re not cheap they’re far more affordable than they once were. Another option, especially if you want to create a proper cinema feel is to use a projector. These have become excellent in recent years, and allow you to watch movies with most of the contrast, color, and sharpness that you would on a television.
Sound
Along with a good screen, you of course need a good sound system. When you go to the cinema, it’s the awesome sound quality that really adds to the movie. Invest in a high-quality surround sound system and play around with the location of the speakers for the best result.
Insulate
Since good sound quality is essential to have your home cinema, the room you’re viewing in needs to be well insulated. If you have rooms either above or below you, you will need to insulate the floor/ ceiling as applicable as well as the walls. If you’re handy when it comes to DIY you could do this yourself, the materials will be available from most high street DIY stores and there are plenty of tutorials online. If you’re not confident doing this, call in a profession. It’s an important step when you’re using a good sound system.
Seating
If you want to achieve that cinema feel, how about searching for a company that sells fixed seating for theaters, auditoriums and more? If you’re doing multiple rows, create raised platforms for the chairs to sit on so that every seat has a perfect view. A surefire way to make your movie room feel like your own personal cinema screening every time! Alternatively, you could keep it more relaxed and add some comfy sofas or some recliner chairs.
Blackout Window Treatments
There’s nothing worse when you’re trying to watch a movie than light coming in and reflecting off the screen! A good quality blackout blind and a pair of thick blackout curtains over the top should do the trick.
Paint
Generally ‘light, bright and airy’ is the look you should be aiming to achieve in your home, it maximizes space and makes the most of the natural light in the home. However, it’s kind of the opposite you want to go for in a movie room. Painting both the walls and the ceiling in a dark color helps to darken the room and create more focus on the screen. It doesn’t have to be pitch black, but a deep color is definitely your best bet. Grey is very on trend for home decor at the moment, a charcoal shade would do the trick.
