America is the most influential company in the world when it comes to entertainment. It’s the world-leader in many performing industries, so it’s worth going there for the experience alone. If you’re an aspiring performer, here are some of the major reasons you may want to study in the USA.

IT HAS SOME OF THE BEST DRAMA SCHOOLS IN THE WORLD

According to Hollywood Reporter’s rankings, America plays host to four of the five greatest drama schools in the world. It also has plenty more respectable schools for aspiring entertainers throughout the list. You can see the rankings at http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/top-25-drama-schools-world-558898.

Many of the best performers studied at these schools. The world-famous Juilliard school pumped out alumni such as Kevin Spacey, Viola Davis, and Robin Williams. The Yale School of Drama was where people like Meryl Streep and Paul Newman learnt their craft.

Whether you’re interested in dance, drama or music, America has some of the greatest educational facilities for it. Even if you can’t afford to move and study there full-time, many offer summer programs and exchange opportunities.

YOU CAN WORK WHILE YOU STUDY

Tuition and living fees can often be expensive while studying in the USA. However, the F-1 student visa enables international students to work part-time while they study.

Many international students get jobs within their schools. You may want to work in the drama department by ushering for student performances or giving tours to prospective students. Most colleges also offer administrative and retail jobs to suit any student.

Employment discrimination is severely punished. If you feel like you’re denied opportunities for being an international student, you have grounds for legal action. The opportunity to work gives students a way to make ends meet while they study.

IT HOSTS THE ENTERTAINMENT CAPITALS OF THE WORLD

Los Angeles has long been known as the entertainment capital of the world. As well as being the home of Hollywood, it’s a major player in the music industry. Many aspiring entertainers travel to LA to try and catch their big break.

Las Vegas also considers itself the entertainment capital of the world. With street performers everywhere and shows on every corner, it certainly has a claim to the name.

Even New York could make an argument for being the entertainment capital. As well as being a haven for the TV industry, it is, of course, the home of Broadway. With so many entertainment capitals, USA is the place to go for performers.

Don’t worry about feeling out of place while studying in the states. After all, 10% of students in US colleges and universities are from overseas.

It’s also one of the most multicultural countries in the world. The Filipino American community alone accounted for 3.4 million of the population in 2010. It’s an accepting nation, making it a great place for international study.
