One of the most sought after traditional Chinese painters today, Liping Zheng holds his first solo exhibit entitled “Liping Zheng’s A Passionate World” at the ArtistSpace of the Ayala Museum from July 24 to August 5.
Initiated into the realm of art while in his early teens, Zheng derives his inspiration from traditional Chinese painting. All of his spare time and energy has been devoted to the brush, with which he has built an indissoluble bond. One of the prominent features that characterize Zheng’s creative experience is his painstaking preoccupation with the aesthetic properties of painting realized through the traditional use of brushes and inks.
Zheng makes a point of being innovative in the creative process, placing an equal stress on learning from his predecessors and from mother nature. This relentless pursuit for artistic accomplishment, coupled with his mastery of Chinese and western culture, and his passionate love of nature has made his works an incarnation of what is best in traditional Chinese painting and an embodiment of the contemporary human spirit. Many of these works are fraught with rugged elegance and virility; others with gentle and dainty charm. Zheng’s art ranges across scenes of ease and tranquility to romantic beauty. His creativity flows across the traditional spectrum with three-dimensional richness while leaving ample room for fanciful flights of imagination. Whatever the form of expression, these artistic creations have an uplifting vigor and passionate vitality.
Zheng’s paintings are housed in museums and prestigious universities around the world. He has been honored with two personal exhibitions in the National Art Museum of China and has received numerous awards from organizations such as the China Artists Association. His works have been collected by individuals, agencies and universities including the National Art Museum of China and the China National Academy of Painting. Harvard University has Zheng’s On the Charles permanently exhibited, since 1998, in their China Initiative and Asian Scholar Office. His paintings have been the subject of favorable essays by top Chinese art critics in national key journals such as Art, Art Observation, and Rong Bao Zhai. Liping Zheng Collected Paintings Vol.I, Vol.II, and Liping Zheng collected Paintings of Flower were both published in mainland China and Hong Kong.
