A homage to the members of the ensemble as the unsung heroes of musical theater goes onstage in Triple Threats – “Koro Koro Boom!” on October 20, 7:30pm at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino (Little Theater) of the Cultural Center of the Philippines.
“Koro Koro Boom!” is a mini concert showcasing the prowess of the pioneer in ensemble theater work in the Philippines, the PETA Kalinangan Ensemble. Deriving from PETA’s rich repertoire of contemporary musicales and comedies, the performance celebrates how the “Koro Koro Boom!” came to be in its work onstage and off stage. Light-hearted with emotive touches on Philippine history and society, the concert is also a look back into the last 49 years of the company as it approaches its 50th year. Directed by Melvin Lee, with musical direction by Vincent de Jesus, the show will feature pioneering and aspiring members of the PETA Kalinangan Ensemble together with the select guest artists that have done significant work with PETA.
Triple Threats is a series of solo concerts featuring the stalwarts of Philippine Musical Theater. Each concert is an intimate evening of beautiful music, personally selected by the artists themselves, from their vast repertoire of favorite songs from Broadway, West End, original Filipino musicals and the movies. Dubbed as a series of “concept concerts”, the narrative of the performance is dictated by the song choices. It is a rare opportunity for the audience to see a different facet of the acclaimed theater, television and film artist being featured. The definition of a “triple threat” is someone in a particular field who exhibits the three skills that are necessary to excel – can act, can sing and can dance.
