Visayan groups to perform for Luzon audiences via CCP’s ‘Ugnayan Sa Sining’ outreach tours

To further its initiatives of promoting regional arts and culture, the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) Cultural Exchange Department (CED) brings on outreach tour some of the country’s most prominent Visayan performing groups under its Ugnayan Sa Sining program – community performances and exchange tours.

From November 24-28, 2016, the students, teachers, local artists and community audiences in Mariveles-Bataan, Pila-Laguna and Batangas City will experience folk dances, rondalla and chorale music that will be performed by the DAGYAW BAILE of the Iloilo National High School; KABATAANG SILAY RONDALLA of Silay City under Music Director/Trainor Jegger Anjao; and the UNIVERSITY OF THE VISAYAS CHORALE of Cebu City under choirmaster Anna Abeleda-Piquiero. The Visayas Collaborative Production was conceptualized and directed by Ma. Lourdes Josefa Lopez (a playwright, director, actor from Bacolod who is currently the Executive Director of the Negros Museum), assisted by Ria Espanola from Iloilo, a teacher/choreographer and artistic director of Dagyaw Baile.   The outreach performance tour in Luzon is the third phase of the Ugnayan Sa Sining tours which started in 2014. The CCP CED also organized and toured several performing artists/groups in Mindanao and Luzon who collaborated with each other in one production that showcased their local cultural expressions.

The Luzon tour is made possible thru the support of the Municipality of Mariveles, Department of Education – SDO Bataan, Agles Elementary School for Mariveles-Bataan; Shrine of San Antonio de Padua & Colegio Monterei de Pila in Pila-Laguna; City Government of Batangas, Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) for Batangas City; Danny Dolor, founder/president of TRIBUNG PILIPINO FOUNDATION; and the National Commission for Culture and the Arts.

Catch any of the outreach performances on Nov. 24-4:00pm at the Agles Elementary School Covered Court, Mariveles-Bataan; Nov. 27-3:00pm at the Pila Church; and Nov. 28-4:00pm at the LPU Auditorium in Batangas City.
