The Cultural Center of the Philippines celebrates its 49th founding anniversary with an exhibit showcasing the artistic talents of its employees, which will be on display from September 11 to 20, at the Hallway of the CCP Main Building Lower Basement.
Curated by the Visual Arts and Museum Division, in cooperation with the Production and Exhibition Department, the exhibit, titled “Pagningas: Igniting the Fire of Creativity,” will feature artworks that were personally made or crafted by the CCP employees as a result of hobby or personal interest.
On exhibit are photographs, paintings, drawings, illustrations, graphic designs, crafts, fashion items, published and unpublished literary pieces, and musical works, among others.
The main event of the anniversary celebration will be a simple program on September 19, where selected officials and employees will showcase their artistic skills and talents.
This year’s celebration continues last year’s theme of self-discovery. It aims to empower the employees and help them reach their artistic talents and potentials. It also aims to develop camaraderie among the CCP employees.
Founded in 1969, the CCP is the national cultural center for arts, producing and presenting music, dance, theater, visual arts, literary, cinematic and design works and events from the Philippines and all over the world. It is mandated to promote excellence in the arts through the initiation and implementation of activities that aim to improve and elevate standards among cultural workers, artists and audiences and to recognize the multiplicity and differences of aesthetic experiences and standards encompassing the arts from grassroots to those formulated by academy-trained artists.
It is home to nine resident companies – namely Ballet Philippines, Philippine Ballet Theater, Tanghalang Pilipino, Ramon Obusan Folkloric Group, the Bayanihan Philippine National Folk Dance Company, Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra, UST Symphony Orchestra, Philippine Madrigal Singers and the National Music Competitions for Young Artists Foundation (NAMCYA). Each resident company presents a regular season of productions, workshops, outreach performances and training workshops.
