The Cultural Center of the Philippines held its second Ballet Competition, with ballet dancers from different parts of the country competed in the Junior Category (13-18 years old) on November 17, and the Senior Category (19-25 years old) on November 19. The Competition consisted of two parts: the first part was the rendition of classical variations, and the second part was the performance of a contemporary piece.
The winners of the Junior Category are as follows: First Prize: Nicole Klaudine Barroso;
Second Prize: Maria Michaella Carreon; and Third Prize: Brian John Sevilla.
The Trudl Dubsky Zipper Award for Contemporary Choregoraphy, Junior Category went to the choreographer of “Ili Ili” Gerardo Francisco interpreted by Joshua Rey Enciso.
In the Senior Category, separate awards were given to the females and males. The female winners are as follows: Second Prize: Irene Kim Abrogena; Third Prize: Aisha Josephine Polestico.
The male winners are as follows: First Prize: Godwin Merano; Second Prize: Al Frederick Abraham; Third Prize: Matthew Davo.
Trudl Dubsky Zipper Award for Choreography, Senior Category went to the choreographer of “Empty” Gebvelle Ray Selga interpreted by Al Frederick Abraham.
Prizes were the following: 1st Prize: P35,000, 2nd Prize, P25,000; 3rd Prize: P15,000, and P10,000 for the Trudl Dubsky Zipper Award for Contemporary Choreography. Gift certificates from the Dance Store and That’s D Pointe Dance Shop were likewise awarded.
The jury composed of four (4) Filipinos and one (1) from the Asian region were the following: Jeng Halili, Mia Mañosa, Melanie Motus, Raul Sauz and Dr. Jae Keun Park from Korea.
