CCP to host first Asia Choral Grand Prix on July 21

This historical event for in the field of choral music will gather six choirs composed of the two top winners of the 2017 and 2018 international choral festivals in Asia: Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, the Bali International Choir Festival (BICF) and the Singapore International Choral Festival (SICF).

The Cultural Center of the Philippines will host the first Asia Choral Grand Prix on Sunday, July 21, at 6:00 PM at the Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo.

This historical event for in the field of choral music will gather six choirs composed of the two top winners of the 2017 and 2018 international choral festivals in Asia: Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, the Bali International Choir Festival (BICF) and the Singapore International Choral Festival (SICF).

The six participating choirs are as follows: the Brawijaya University Student Choir (Indonesia) and the University of the Philippines Los Baños Choral Ensemble (Philippines) representing the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival; e Deum Voice (Indonesia) and the Paduan Suara Mahasiswa Universitas Padjadjaran (Indonesia) representing the Bali International Choir Festival; and the Vocalista Harmonic Choir ISI from Yogyakarta (Indonesia) and the St. Louis High School Choir (Indonesia) representing the Singapore International Choir Festival.

The 1st Asia Choral Grand Prix took two years of preparations.  This was initiated by the Cultural Center of the Philippines, the organizer of the Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival, through meetings with the BICF and SIFC organizers which first took place in July 2017.  In September 2017, the partnership between the three festivals was forged through a signed Memorandum of Understanding.

The Organizing Committee of the Asia Choral Grand Prix shares its collective mission to elevate the overall quality and appreciation of the choral art, and inspire audiences and artists through choral music by uniting the outstanding festivals and competitions in Asia.

A jury of five internationally renowned adjudicators representing five continents will evaluate the competition. The jury is composed of the following: Werner Pfaff (Germany), Jason Max Ferdinand (US), Digna Guerra (Cuba), David Squire (New Zealand) and Mark Anthony Carpio (Philippines).

The next Asia Choral Grand Prix will be held in Indonesia in 2021 and in Singapore in 2023.
