Fifty-three former members of the University of Santo Tomas Singers will reunite across generations and continents for the first-ever international alumni concert tour in Philippine choral history, performing in Spain and Germany from October 4 to 21, 2026.
Organized by the UST Singers Alumni International (USTSAI), the tour will bring together alumni now based in the Philippines, the US, Europe, the Middle East and Asia, including members of the original 1992 group. They will perform under the direction of Prof. Fidel Gener Calalang Jr., founder and conductor of the UST Singers.
Titled “Musica, Amor y Amistad” in Spain and “Musik, Liebe, und Freundschaft” in Germany, the tour will visit Valencia and Barcelona, followed by Freiburg, Weilburg and Berlin, with performances at venues including the Iglesia de Santa Catalina, Sagrada Família, Burgerhaus Au, Schlosskirche Weilburg and Kaiser Wilhelm Gedächtniskirche.
Bringing the 53 singers together has required months of online and in-person rehearsals, with alumni preparing across different countries, time zones and professional commitments.
“It has always been a dream to bring the alumni from all over onto one stage,” Calalang said. “We want to do this because we love making music, and our bond is so strong that everyone felt a profound need to make this happen.
A Legacy That Continues
Founded in 1992, the UST Singers has won more than 90 international choral competition prizes under Calalang’s direction. It was also the first choir to win the Choir of the World Pavarotti Trophy at the Llangollen International Musical Eisteddfod twice, in 1995 and 2010.
The European tour reunites generations of singers who have gone on to careers in music, education, conducting and other fields around the world. Their program will feature sacred and international works, Filipino folk songs, inspirational selections and Broadway favorites, alongside music connected to the countries they will visit.
Established in 2006, UST Singers Alumni International provides opportunities for former members to reconnect and participate in concerts, festivals, collaborations and cultural activities. In August 2026, USTSAI, Inc. was formally established as a California nonprofit corporation dedicated to preserving the UST Singers’ musical legacy, promoting choral music and fostering cultural exchange.
The European tour will also launch the UST Singers’ 35th anniversary celebration in 2027.
“More than simply a concert tour, it is a reunion of friends and artists who share a common history, a celebration of our musical roots, and a way of carrying the spirit of the UST Singers with us wherever we go,” Calalang said.
The 2026 UST Singers Alumni International European Concert Tour will run from October 4 to 21, 2026, in Spain and Germany.
