ART ATTACK

‘Counterpoints’ exhibit until May 6 at Sining Kamalig Gallery

The exhibit provides an opportunity for the seven MFA students – Matthew Carretero, Weena Espardinez, Lea Lim, Nomar Miano, Dessa Reyes, Jenny Suarez and Nick Trinidad – to share their diverse artistic practices with the public.

The creative works  of Master of Fine Arts students from the UP College of Fine Arts, Diliman  will be on display until May 6 at Sining Kamalig Gallery. Sining Kamalig is said to be the oldest running art gallery in the Philippines. It was first set up in 1972 at Shop6 in Pasay before transferring to Gateway Mall at Araneta Center in Cubao, Quezon City and then moving to its present location in Alimall Cubao, Quezon City.

The exhibit provides an opportunity for the seven MFA students – Matthew Carretero, Weena Espardinez, Lea Lim, Nomar Miano, Dessa Reyes, Jenny Suarez and Nick Trinidad – to share their  diverse artistic practices with the public.

The exhibit is an important collaboration of the participating artists to help situate their works within the larger discourse in the practice of art today, which puts value on  many different  concepts or  even opposing ideas working in harmony to create balance and unity.

Entitled “Counterpoints”, the exhibit marks  the culmination of their visual research and art production that emphasizes on sharing common ground, extensive creative exploration, unique perspectives, interests, and personal styles of making under the supervision of the former Dean of the College of Fine Arts in the University of the Philippines, Professor Nestor Vinluan– a celebrated abstractionist, and a renowned educator.

The exhibit will open on April 23, 2019 at 4pm. The gallery is located at the Upper Ground Floor, Ali Mall, Araneta Center, Corner General Romulo Ave and P. Tuazon Blvd, Cubao Quezon City.
