Challenging traditional performance settings by embracing unconventional spaces, DAGITAB/DIGITAL: SIKAT, the latest edition of the light show presented by the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) at the Bamboo and Cogon Pavilion in Liwasang Kalikhasan, invites contemplation on shared narratives of freedom and identity.
Running until July 21, 2024, from 6:30 PM to 9:00 PM, this innovative light show extends the celebration of National Flag Day and Philippine Independence Day with a spectacle designed to captivate and inspire.
Transforming the Bamboo and Cogon Pavilion into an acapella light extravaganza, the show is conceived and crafted by award-winning lighting designer D Cortezano. Utilizing the pavilion’s natural elements as his canvas, Cortezano creates a digital and electrifying experience that explores themes of freedom and introspection. With symbolic elements like water, mirrors, and lights, coupled with the Filipino voice as its foundation, the light show invites viewers to reflect on the dynamic and profound nature of freedom, the personal journey of understanding, and the pursuit of truth.
The show also features musical compositions by Ejay Yatco from Tanghalang Pilipino’s Pingkian, Areté’s 2Bayani: Isang Rock Opera, and a reading of Pete Lacaba’s Prometheus Unbound by Brian Matthew Sy, Guelan Varela-Luarca, and D Cortezano.
Led by CCP’s Production Design and Technical Services Division, under the guidance of division chief Ricardo Eric Cruz, the creative team includes esteemed professionals such as Rafa Sumilong and Jethro Nibaten (Lighting Designers), Mary Anne Plamenio-Cortezano (Music Mix and Mastering), Jericho A. Pagana (Installation Execution), and John Robert Yam (Sound Design).
DAGITAB/DIGITAL: SIKAT promises an unforgettable sensory experience, celebrating the architectural beauty of Liwasang Kalikhasan while pushing the boundaries of creative expression. As CCP continues its mission to promote Filipino arts and culture, this event stands as a testament to the power of light, sound, and storytelling in shaping collective consciousness.
