MAY-A shares new single, ‘Swing Of Things’

MAY-A shared her new single, “Swing Of Things,” the follow up to previous breakout singles, “TimeI Love To Waste” and “Apricots” which together told her story of falling in love for the first time while embracing a newfound sexual identity.

Rising 19-year-old Sydney pop star MAY-A shared her new single, “Swing Of Things,” the follow up to previous breakout singles, “TimeI Love To Waste” and “Apricots” which together told her story of falling in love for the first time while embracing a newfound sexual identity.

MAY-A’s true gift is her ability to write about universally felt emotions navigating relationships, everyday experiences and inject these vignettes with arena-size energy and crystal-clean pop vocals.

“Swing Of Things” takes us on the journey of what happens after infatuation, where things fall apart. She hones in on those racing thoughts of doubt most everyone experiences in the aftermath of a break-up.

Says MAY-A, “‘Swing Of Things’ is about that longing feeling for things to go back to normal even though you know if you give yourself time to heal, you’ll be better than you’ve ever been. It’s about learning how to live life by yourself again once someone has left your life. Sometimes you need to cut a person off so both people can grow better separately, and most of the time that process sucks. ‘Is your heart out on your sleeve now you’re gone?.’ ‘Is the grass more green from where you’re from?’ are questions I was dying to ask both them and my future self. Ultimately, ‘was this worth it?'”

Having written music since the age of 12, MAY-A only started releasing her string of endearing “chillwave” (Billboard) pop anthems just one year ago. In that time, the 19 year old Sydney-based musician and visual artist has racked up tens of millions of streams, over 250K YouTube subscribers, been heralded as “glorious” by Variety, a “proper pop wiz” by tastemaker Aussie radio station, triple j, “a soon-to-be star” by Gay Times, “your new fave artist” by Dork Magazine, and more. MAY-A’s poignant, elliptical storytelling, clear-eyed observational lyricism, and songwriting full of musical left-turns makes it clear why she just sold out her debut national Australian headline tour, and why she’s gaining fans across the globe at every step. MAY-A is also currently working on her debut EP, to be released this summer.
