3rd Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival slated on July 20-23

The Cultural Center of the Philippines with the support of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts and the Tourism Promotions Board (TPB) of the Department of Tourism presents the 3rd Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festival on July 20-23, 2017. The Festival, which follows the successes of the first and second Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festivals held in 2013 and 2015, respectively, will witness nine foreign and local choirs compete in three categories: Folk Song, Vocal Ensemble and Chamber Choir.

Veneracion International Choral Festival on July 20-23, 2017. The Festival, which follows the successes of the first and second Andrea O. Veneracion International Choral Festivals held in 2013 and 2015, respectively, will witness nine foreign and local choirs compete in three categories: Folk Song, Vocal Ensemble and Chamber Choir.

The competing choirs are the following: University of Baguio Voices Chorale, Brawajiya University Student Choir (Indonesia), Choir of the University of Silesia “Harmonia” (Poland), Koro Ilustrado, Medan Community Male Choir (Indonesia), Philippine Vocal Ensemble, Technological Institute of the Philippines Choral Society,  University of the Philippines Los Baños Choral Ensemble, and the UST The Accountancy Chamber Singers.

The Folk Song competition will showcase the performances of Filipino choirs singing folk songs from the Philippines, the Asian region, and from outside of the Asian region and foreign choirs singing folk songs from their home country, from another country in their region and from the Philippines. The Vocal Ensemble competition will see choirs, composed of a maximum of only 16 singers, sing freely chosen pieces with the exception of folk songs. The Chamber Choir competition will present choirs singing period pieces: one Renaissance/Early Baroque choral work, one Romantic choral work, one 20th or 21st century choral work; and the obligatory piece entitled “Daluyong”, a newly commissioned work composed by Ily Matthew Maniano. “Daluyong” is a tribute to the Yolanda victims and survivors.

A jury of five internationally renowned adjudicators – one from North America, one from Europe, one from South America, one from Africa/Australia and one from the Philippines will evaluate the competitors.  These are the following: Dr. Kent Hatteberg (USA), Bengt Ollén (Sweden), Maria Guinand (Venezuela), Dr. Ronald Smart (Australia), and Mark Anthony Carpio (Philippines).

The Festival schedule is as follows: Opening Ceremonies (Free), Thursday, July 20, 2017, 7:00 PM; Folk Song Competition, Friday, July 21, 2017, 7:00 PM; Vocal Ensemble Competition and Chamber Choir Competition, Saturday, July 22, 2017, 4:00 PM; Philippine Madrigal Singers Gala, Sunday, July 23, 2017, 3:00 PM; Closing Ceremonies (Free), Sunday, July 23, 2017, 6:00 PM.

The ticket prices for the competitions are P300, P200. Ticket prices for the Philippine Madrigal Singers Gala areP1000, P800, P500, P400, P300.

All events will be held at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Tanghalang Nicanor Abelardo.
