PPO to perform at UP Diliman on March 23

In cooperation with the UP Office of the President, the concert, dubbed “Simulain at Pangarap: A Musical Celebration,” will be held on March 23, 2018, 6p.m., at the Quezon Hall Amphitheater in UP Diliman.

After its successful concerts in Iloilo City and Antique, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra (PPO) continues its outreach initiative at the University of the Philippines-Diliman.

In cooperation with the UP Office of the President, the concert, dubbed “Simulain at Pangarap: A Musical Celebration,” will be held on March 23, 2018, 6p.m., at the Quezon Hall Amphitheater in UP Diliman.

The PPO concert is part of the commemoration of the 106th anniversary of the First UP Commencement. It also aims to promote music appreciation throughout the country.

The UP Diliman outreach concert will be divided into two parts. For the first part, the PPO will perform classical pieces such as Gioachino Rossini’s Overture to William Tell, Ion Ivanovich’s Waves of the Danube Waltz and Giacomo Puccini’s Nessun Dorma, as well as Broadway pieces from Les Miserables and Phantom of the Opera.

The second part will feature popular Filipino music and original soundtracks from well-known movies including Aegis Overture and Itchyworms Medley.

Maestro Herminigildo Ranera, PPO’s resident conductor, will lead the orchestra. A conductor, composer, arranger, performer and educator, Dr. Ranera is currently a faculty member of the UST Conservatory of Music, and the conductor of the UST Symphony Orchestra and UST Wind Orchestra.

Established in 1973 as an accompaniment for the performing artists at the CCP Theater, the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra has become the country’s leading orchestra and is widely regarded as one of the top musical ensembles in the Asia-Pacific region.
