‘Tribute to the Thomasian 2014’ scheduled on March 30

The University of Santo Tomas Conservatory of Music in cooperation with the Cultural Center of the Philippines presents the UST Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Korean conductor Jae-Joon Lee with Filipino and Korean classical artists in a concert entitled Tribute to the Thomasian 2014 on March 30, Sunday, 6:00PM at the CCP Main Theater.

UST Symphony Orchestra
The program consists of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s Overture from The Marriage of Figaro, Robert Schumann’s Piano Concerto in A, Op. 54 and Ludwig van Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 in D minor, Op. 125. Featured artists are pianist Fr. Manuel P. Maramba OSB, soprano Yun-Kyoung Yi, mezzo soprano Nenen Espina, tenor Lemuel de la Cruz, and baritone Daesan No with the UST Singers, Coro Tomasino, and the Liturgikon Vocal Ensemble.

Founded in 1927 by Dr. Manuel Casas of the UST Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, the UST Symphony Orchestra has produced many musicians, some of whom have become the country’s leading artists. Presently, the Orchestra is comprised of 70 student-members, including winners of national music competitions, participants of foreign youth orchestras and scholars of important music schools abroad. It is the official orchestra of the University of Santo Tomas and an integral part of the UST Conservatory of Music. A resident performing group of the CCP which subsidizes its training program, it holds regular concerts at the CCP and participates in the CCP Outreach and Exchange program. It also serves as a training orchestra for the future needs of the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and other professional ensembles.
