Winners of 3rd CCP Ballet Competition announced

The CCP Ballet Competition is a biennial competition which started in 2014. The competition is open to ballet dancers from 13 to 18 years old in the Junior category, and 19 to 25 years old in the Senior category.

The Cultural Center of the Philippines is pleased to announce the winners of the 3rd CCP Ballet Competition – i.e. Junior Category (13-18 years old) and Senior Category (19-25 years old). 

The Junior Female Category winners are as follows:  1st Prize: Pia Angela P. Custodio; 2nd Prize: Lormaigne Hannelore F. Bochmὓhl, 3rd Prize: Sabine Nicole C. Burket. The Junior Male Category winners are as follows: 1stPrize: Brian John R. Sevilla; 2nd Prize: Rafael Perez; 3rd Prize: Alvin C. Dictado.  The winner of the Trudl Dubsky Award for Outstanding Choreography went to the choreographer John Ababon whose piece “Happy Thoughts”, was interpreted by finalist number 7, Jos David L. Andes.

The Senior Female Category winners are as follows: 1st Prize: Jhoy Anne Maverick F. Chavez; 2nd Prize: Akira Lydia A. Abao; 3rd Prize: Ma. Alexa Andrea R. Torte.   The Senior Male Category winners are as follows: 1stPrize: Joshua Rey O. Enciso; 2nd Prize: Marveen Ely M. Lozano; 3rd Prize: Luigie A. Barrera.  The winner of the Trudl Dubsky Award for Outstanding Choreography went to the choreographer Japhet Mari Cabling whose piece “Buoy”, was interpreted by finalist number 2, Marveen Ely M. Lozano.

Awards included a certificate for each winner, separate cash prizes of Php35,000 (1stPrize); Php25,000 (2ndPrize); and Php15,000 (3rd Prize) for each of the male and female winners, and Php10,000 each for the Trudl Dubsky Award for Outstanding Choreography for the Junior and Senior category winner. Gift Items courtesy of That’s D Pointe Dance Shop were also given.  The cash prize for the Trudl Dubsky Award for Outstanding Choreography Award was donated by the Steps Dance Studio Scholarship Foundation to promote excellence in Philippine dance and choreography.

The jury was composed of Qi Huan from China, now with the Royal New Zealand Ballet; Myra Beltran, Eddie Elejar, Melanie Motus, and Raul Sauz.

The CCP Ballet Competition is a biennial competition which started in 2014. The competition is open to ballet dancers from 13 to 18 years old in the Junior category, and 19 to 25 years old in the Senior category. The applicants are screened through video auditions. The finalists are required to render two dances during the competition proper at the Tanghalang Aurelio Tolentino: the classical variation in the first round, and the contemporary piece in the second round.
